Due to the fact that most people lead double lives. One so-called real, the other virtual, e.g. in social media or computer games. Perhaps it would be worth considering that every citizen should have two ID cards....

One way to think of humans and human consciousness is that we are a collection of citations and intentional omissions of memories.

Humans are curators of memory, maintaining a balance of both recall and oblivion. Our existence is...

Hello everyone,
I do not use my OpenAI account, which contains 2510 USD credit, because it is redundant. For this reason, I want to sell urgently. If anyone wants to buy it, I can deliver the account for 1500 USD.

Thanks.

Like many others I just happened to stumble into this page. Interesting. But I was disconcerted about the opening sentence of the sequences. It being untrue. I can’t tell if this is even an appropriate topic. Or if anyone is really interested. Or if this has already been addressed. I am just giving it a go and would like your feedback.

Rationality is only a step on the staircase to Enlightenment.

There are things beyond rationality, things rationality cannot fathom nor touch. Rationality is a microscope, but what can a microscope say about your experience of emotions? No, not...

Have you taken into consideration that while ChatGPT and the likes are currently obscuring lots of mundane tasks and automating them for the masses,  such tools aren't bound to remain the same forever? For me I think the difference will be similar to the transition between calculators and modern computers. I think the effect here is overstated because we are thinking of tasks that have become obsolete with the rise of AI, of skills that are no longer as needed. I am on the side which thinks that AI will revolutionize education, and that students who u... (read more)

I think the worst scenario will come without us even realizing it, it will slowly creep on us. More focus should be given to AI-proofing our vital infrastructure and institutions. It is not a matter whether it will come or not at this point, it is on the way, and you can't guard against all bad actors by implementing a policy on AI safety. It may help to slow things down, but eventually something wrong will happen, as it always did throughout our species history. To this day, I haven't heard of such an effective weapon that was created and wasn't used, not even in mythology. Governments should operate with the assumption that the worst case scenario is going to happen, and prepare accordingly.

I'm writing this on a lot of LSD, so i'm unsure as to how coherent this will end up being. But hopefully it's less than destructive.

What does it mean for something to be predetermined?

For me, this connotes some kind of human-like conceptualization, or physical reality to things before they occur. But I do not think this is the case. There is no sense in which the current moment is being predicted, or has any 'reality', until it's actually real. It is not predetermined because  it has not been determined. The only way each moment can present itse... (read more)

17dPreface Rejected

My first comment. Hold my chips, I'm diving in! :)

How does the concept of 'bounded rationality' fit into analysis of these attitudes within the rationalist community? Are these attitudes reflective of the limitations and biases inherent in human cognition, and if so, how do proponents of each attitude address these limitations?

While your theory holds some truth, humans also seek pleasure through various means including food consumption which activates reward centers within us leading to feelings of happiness & satisfaction beyond mere nutritional needs; henceforth explaining why certain tastes (like sugar) trigger positive responses even when consumed excessively causing potential health issues over time due its addictive nature . It is this inherent desire towards seeking pleasurable experiences combined with our evolutionary past where accessing natural sources was often c... (read more)
